Koha is the first open source library automation system, which was developed in 1999. It was Katipo communications, which made the remarkable move by developing this web-based system first for the Horowhenua Library Trust (HLT), a New Zealand consortium and subsequently made it open for all.
Koha has been designed to work with minimum hardware resources. It runs on the Linux OS (Operating System) in conjunction with the Apache Web server, uses MySQL open source database management system, and is written in Perl.
It has been center of attraction since its evolution. So far, it has received many contributions consequently all essential features have been incorporated into this, for example:
